February 1-4 (Wed-Sat) -- National Cattlemen's Beef Association Annual Meeting and Trade Show in Nashville, Tennessee.  For more details see www.beef.org.  

February 6 (Mon) -- Heifer Development Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clay County Regional Events Center on the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer.  Cattle producers will learn about the cost of developing a heifer, estrus synchronization, heifer selection, sire selection, health protocols and using ultrasound to determine pregnancy and fetal gender.    Cost is $15 which includes lunch and materials that attendees get to take with them.  For more details and to register, see www.iowabeefcenter.org.  Snow date is February 8th.

February 8 (Wed) -- Iowa Farm Bureau Margin Management Webinar to discuss 2012 Crop Insurance options and marketing tips from 1 to 2 p.m.  The webinar is free of charge and open to non-Farm Bureau members by pre-registering at www.iowafarmbureau.com.  This webinar will be taped for Farm Bureau members to watch at their convenience later.  This webinar will feature Ed Kordick and William Edwards.  For more details contact Ed at 515-225-5433.

February 11 (Sat) -- Emmet County Cattlemen's annual banquet at the Elk’s Lodge in Estherville.
A prime rib dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m., with a dance to follow at 8 p.m. There will be lots of door prizes. April 14 (Sat) -- 6th Annual Garden Extravaganza presented by the pocahontas County Master Gardeners at the Expo Center in Pocohontas.  The extravaganza runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature displays, door prizes and educational presentations.  

June 28 (Thurs) -- Iowa Swine Day at the Scheman Building on the Iowa State University campus in Ames from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This one-day program will focus on pork producer owner/operators, farm employees, contract finishers, field staff and allied industry personnel.  Topics to be covered include preventing and managing pit foam, reducing feed costs, export market opportunites, animal welfare and personnel management.  For more details, internet search Iowa Swine Day.
